Wagons Ho! Rangel Construction to Upgrade Historic Oregon Trail Site in NE

Article image

Scottsbluff National Monument, located adjacent to the town of Gering, NE, is a site that preserves significant historical landmarks along the western settlement routes of the mid-nineteenth century. These important westward expansions included the Oregon, Mormon, and California Trails. Originally established as a National Monument in 1919, the site began a fuller development as a tourist attraction in the 1930s, and preserves the beautiful natural rock formations of Scotts Bluff, Eagle Rock, Sentinel Rock, and Dome Rock.

Part of the site includes the Historic Scottsbluff Visitor Center, and once again the National Park Service has turned to the expertise of Rangel Construction to provide a full-scale renovation and expansion of this valuable asset to the location. The scope of work includes a selective demolition of existing structures, followed by the addition of 3,400 sq ft of new construction which will include new exhibit spaces, restrooms, and retail spaces, as well as a new lobby and office and storage areas. Also included in this project are 3,200sq ft of the original visitor center area that will be remodeled and renovated, and will include a re-fitted sprinkler system and a new HVAC system.

Work is scheduled to begin on the site in January of 2019 and is expected to be completed by early December.
